DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY
 
POSITION:

Director of Youth Ministry at FUMC. Flexible hours, to be negotiated with Pastor and/or the Youth Committee—with a minimum of 20 hours per week. Report weekly hours to the Pastor.

 
PURPOSE:
The purpose is to minister to the youth of our church and community in grades 7-12 and to administer, develop, and implement youth ministry programs designed to meet the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of the youth, leading them to spiritual commitments and disciplines.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
  • A Christian with a heart for the youth.

  • Pray for the youth

  • Conduct yourself in a Christ-like manner and demonstrate high moral standards.

  • Establish meaningful personal relationships with the young people in the congregation and community by investing in their lives, such as attending lunch at the area schools and attending their extracurricular activities (IE: sporting events, concerts, school plays, and award ceremonies). Be aware of the Safe Sanctuary guide lines when participating in these activities.

  • Plan, implement, and attend weekly activities for the youth during the school year that include Bible study, worship, fellowship, and fun! The activities need to be relevant and effective in instructing, training, nurturing, and equipping youth for leading a Spirit-filled life of faith and forging deep Christian friendships.

  • Provide hands-on opportunities for service projects and missions trips for youth to learn how to live out their faith in helping to meet the needs of others.

  • Plan, implement, and attend special summer events such as concerts and retreats.

  • Plan, organize, and attend youth camps and conferences.

  • Participate in annual youth ministry training and individual spiritual development.

  • Regularly attend the youth Sunday school class and teach as needed.

  • Create and monitor expenditures through FUMC Youth budget.

  • Recruit and develop adults within the congregation to serve as committed mentors.

  • Work effectively with parents to foster support of the youth program, including ongoing communication to provide opportunities for input and feedback.

  • Work alongside other church staff members with an attitude of cooperation, and sharing in the vision and ministry in which FUMC has been called.

Need to have a basic knowledge of Wesleyan Theology.



 
CHILDREN'S DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
POSITION:
The director of Children's Ministry at FUMC
 
 
PURPOSE:
Oversight of all areas of children's programming and children's ministry spaces. This includes recruiting, training, supervision and resourcing volunteers to work in the children's programming from birth to 5th grade. The Children's Minister works with the Nursery Supervisor and the Director of Kid's Day Out to facilitate the smooth operation of the programming areas.

 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
  • A Christian with a heart for children and youth.
  • Pray for the children and youth
  • conduct yourself in a Christ-like manner and demonstrate high moralstandards as you teach children with your own life.
  • Plan and implement children's Sunday school.
  • Assist with overseeing Vacation Bible School.
  • Children's Programs and Children's Choir (IE: Christmas play, Palm Sunday Song).
  • Coordination and training of acolytes for worship and children's participation in worship.
  • Coordinate children's activities as related to general church programming.
  • Attendance and reports to Administrative Council.
  • Attend Administrative Council meetings.
  • Submit newsletter articles, and updating children's Facebook area as well as communication with parents.
  • Select curriculum in consultation with Pastor and other programming staff.
  • Coordinate ordering with the Office Manager to order supplies and curriculum.
     
 
ACCOUNTIBILITY:
  • This position is part time.
  • This position requires attendance at Sunday morning and Wednesday programming unless excused.
  • This position reports to the Senior Pastor.
  • The Staff-Parish Relations Committee has final authority in all matters related to paid staff.




CHILDREN & YOUTH
At both the 8:30 and 10:55 am worship services you will see that children and youth are active participants, learning to worship with their church family Sunday after Sunday. Packets are kept in the lobby with coloring and worksheets available for children to use during worship.   A Nursery is available for infants through two year olds. Breastfeeding mothers are welcome to use the nursery.
